Heart disease stays Mumbai’s top killer

According to RTI data, heart disease remains the leading cause of death in Mumbai, but liver disease, cancer, and cerebrovascular diseases are becoming increasingly significant contributors to the mortality rate. There has been a steep increase in deaths due to liver failure, a rise in cancer-related deaths, and a gradual increase in fatalities resulting from stroke and brain haemorrhage. The prevalence of risk factors such as diabetes and hypertension in the city is linked to higher cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events. The increase in cancer deaths may be correlated with the presence of more cancer centers in the city.
